Many times our clients have issues arise in QuickBooks that we can quickly resolve by communicating through email or by phone. One of our clients emailed Will with the following issue and his response follows.

Q: The girls rang in a sale with a quantity of like 60000 but they changed the price to the correct price for 1 item, so the amount of the receipt was right. I did a return receipt and put it to the customer account and then a new sale with the corrected quantity, so the quantity is right but the receipt won’t upload to financial because there is an error due to the quantity issue in the receipts for the original sale and return. How do I force this receipt through so I can deposit the $$$ in QuickBooks correctly? I don’t want to reverse it because then the charge is voided.

A: If you click on the ‘I Want To’ menu and choose ‘View Financial History’, you will see a screen that allows you to mark as successfully sent. That will fix the error.

Will recently had a client who could not connect the client workstation to the server workstation in V10 and here is how he fixed it:

After looking at all of the normal things, he found that a Windows update had turned off the public file sharing in Win7.  In Win 7, you need to make sure that network discovery and public folder sharing are both turned on. These options can be found in the Network and Sharing section of the control panel.

Once we corrected the permissions issue, we were still not able to connect.  We then switched back to single user mode (a new feature in V10 found in the file menu) and switched back to multi-user.  Problem fixed.

Will has been working with a manufacturing client who purchased the QuickBooks (QB) Enterprise Solutions (ES) 5 user software and the MISYS Manufacturing software system. The company performs installation of quality foam roofing and insulation systems. They engineer, design, and install their product so manufacturing is a large part of their business. The MISys product will allow them to have a better understanding of their manufacturing costs and more accurate and immediate access to their inventory numbers.
Last week Will remotely installed the Enterprise Solutions software. Today, he was onsite at their company located in Fresno, CA to install the MISys system, assist the staff with preparing the data for migration, and set-up the QB file. The client will be assigned a MISys Sure Start Coach to train them on how to use the system and its applications. We provide training on the use of Enterprise Solutions. This training will be completed remotely since this doesn’t require…

We have recently spoken with several winery owners and operators who are going to open a wine tasting room and gift shop. There are many questions on how to properly implement a POS system within the wine industry. There are aspects that differ from other retail establishments. That is why William English and Steve Green, owner of Steve D. Green Business Solutions, co-authored the QuickBooks Point of Sale Operations Handbook for Wineries. It is a quick and concise resource that explains how to post transactions and setup and manage winery related inventory and sales activities within QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS).   The following is an excerpt from the book to give you an idea of the content:

Wine in Process (WIP) is a term we use to track the costs associated with making wine.  In essence, it is necessary to accumulate these costs so that you can determine what it costs you to make a single bottle of wine.  For example, you may need to track the purchase of grapes,…

We have exciting news! Will is on his way to Dallas, TX to the Major League Baseball (MLB) Equipment Manager's Tradeshow to exhibit QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS), network with other professionals, and meet MLB Equipment Managers. Only one QBPOS representative/consultant can attend this exclusive event and Will was invited! We are honored that he has this opportunity. Each attendee's registration includes a donation to the MLB Bat Boy Scholarship.

If you are not currently working with a QuickBooks consultant and are researching your options, please consider the level of knowledge, expertise, and professionalism that we offer at English Managment Solutions, Inc.

Thansksgiving has passed, but as we enter the month of December we are still in the spirit of giving thanks for our clients, the Intuit team of professionals, and for our industry partners along with the continued growth of English Management Solutions, Inc. We have been increasingly busy this year with not only assisting our current clients and establishing business relationships with many new clients, but also Will had the opportunity to be a speaker and presenter at several annual accounting and consultant conferences. Will and his colleague Steve Green, President of Steve D. Green Business Solutions, have co-authored three QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS) operation handbooks in which numerous business owners and Pro-Advisors throughout the country have been actively using. Thank you for the confidence you have placed in EMS and the Intuit product.

Recently, a client purchased the QuickBooks financial software (Point of Sale) and the necessary hardware for their new retail store. They had just completed the purchase of the building. The site will be under construction/remodeling for about 1 month. They prefer that William perform the install, configuration, etc. to ensure that it is done properly from the beginning. The client doesn't have the room for William to perform the set-up at their current site but didn't want to miss the great sale Intuit was offering. Our solution? The client purchased the items before the sale expired and William is going to install the software and configure the hardware at our office. He will then take everything to our client's current office so they can input all of the data such as Item #, employee info, and so on, prior to the opening of their new store. We work with our client's based upon their needs, and every client and situation is a little different.
